Since the Gay Bridal Show is this weekend, we thought we would show our “pride” and showcase one of our FAVORITE couples, Jennifer and Roberta! Here’s their story about how we came up with their wedding theme and stationery.
When Jennifer and Roberta started the planning process for their wedding, they weren’t thinking about having a theme. They quickly decided that they wanted the wedding and ceremony to be outside but the exact location was still unknown. They finally asked themselves, “if they could be married anywhere where would it be?” They both answered, “The Desert Botanical Garden.” They met and live in Phoenix, and even though they thought their wedding would not be recognized by their home state they couldn’t think of a more perfect place to showcase the beauty of their home.
The venue helped them envision the ceremony and reception, but they needed a way to share their vision with their vendors to help create the atmosphere they wanted. They needed a theme to bring all of their vendors together to create a shared vision.
To get started on their theme they brainstormed adjectives to describe how they wanted their wedding to feel. For them, the feeling was simple, elegant, natural, and personal. Good start but how to make it personal? Roberta is a professor and at one-time a librarian. Jennifer is an engineer who thinks any problem can be solved with a good book. Books ended up being the perfect way to make their wedding personal and incorporate what they call “our nerdiness” into the garden. They envisioned the garden full of books and from this, their theme became “books & botanicals.”
From Jennifer…
“Erin from Be In Love Designs, really brought our theme to life. From our save the date to the formal invitations and reception materials, Erin used our theme to drive the design and material choices. Erin told us that the invitations would set the tone of the wedding and she was right. The design she created for us was elegant, simply and natural. We received many complements on our invitations. Many guests contacted us immediately after receiving their invitation to let us know how beautiful the invitations were and how much they were looking forward to our wedding. When we started the design of our reception materials it was easy because we were able to continue to use our theme to drive the design decisions. I didn’t see the value of a theme at the beginning of the planning process but I have to say I now recommend that anyone planning a wedding decide on a theme early on. In the planning stage, a theme will make decision making easier for you and your fiancé. And a personal theme will remind guests of your uniqueness every moment of the celebration.”
Well said, Jennifer! We couldn’t agree more.
